Introduced in 1963, the Rolex Cosmograph Daytona collection was inspired by the Daytona Race of the USA. Eternally enjoined in name and function, the collection met the demands of professional racing drivers in the world of motor sport. It has since become one of the most desired watches with its highly reliable chronograph and bezel with tachymetric scale which allows drivers to perfectly measure up to 400 kilometres of miles per hour.
The Daytona, equipped with 4130 calibre has a self-winding mechanical chronograph movement entirely developed and manufactured by Rolex. Its architecture, a composite of Rolex technology, was completely re-engineered with the number of components of the chronograph function reduced significantly, enhancing its reliability.
4 years back Rolex had released a one of a kind Daytona which flaunted a colourful bezel in the form of the Rainbow Daytona using the classic 18k yellow gold cosmograph with 36 square-cut sapphires forming a rainbow pattern of reds, oranges, yellows, greens, blues, mauves and pinks to produce a mesmerizing kaleidoscope of colour.
Despite it not selling at present, people with the rainbow Daytona have found a great investment in the colourful masterpiece, selling for 50 lakhs 4 years back, now valued at a market price of approximately somewhere between 90 lakhs to 1 Crore.
The robust chronograph in the Daytona watch is engaged by a mechanism with a column wheel and vertical clutch, allowing an instantaneous and extremely precise start. Insensitive to magnetic fields, the Daytona watch offers great stability in the face of temperature variations, boasting of a power reserve of approximately up to 72 hours and an investment that lasts beautifully a lifetime!
