Omega has yet again proven that it can recreate old classics with a touch of modern horology. Omega dropped off a bunch of new watches recently and watch enthusiasts are now questioning whether they should be happy about it or surprised. Omega did not release a brand new line of watches. Instead, it simply re-created one of its classics, the 1950s Seamaster. Now, this watch is special for many reasons but one that should be enough is that it was the watchmaker\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s first dive watch.<\/p>\n

The All-New Omega Seamaster 300<\/h2>\n

The new Omega Seamaster 300 is closer to the original in spirit and in aesthetics. The newly released timepiece is a modern-day icon but it is a vintage classic at its heart. The timepiece comes equipped with a present generation METAS certified Co-axial escapement mechanism.<\/p>\n

Honest Opinion<\/h3>\n

Let\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s begin by saying that this is not the first instance that Omega has done this. Omega has been known for re-inventing older watch models. The new Omega Seamaster<\/a> is a vintage classic that tries and might I add, successfully achieves a balance between old school aesthetics and new age elements. In many ways, the new Seamaster 300M is a truer homage to the original 1957 edition of the iconic timepiece. There are, however, many other factors at play as well. For instance, the new timepiece kind of looks older than the actual 1957 Seamaster.<\/p>\n

What\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s New?<\/h3>\n

It is the dial that has to be looked at closely. The dial is essentially made out of two separate plates. The primary plate is applied with Super-LumiNova with blue emitting light. The second plate has cut outs for accommodating the indexes and hour marker numerals. Technically, this is what a sandwich dial is. Furthermore, the hour numerals have an ample amount of luminescence. This type of numerals is referred to as the \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcopen Arabic\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 numeral. Omega last used this in the 1960s.<\/p>\n

The Dial<\/h4>\n

The dial design is also a major difference. The dial text that references the movement has been shifted at the back of the case. The dial size is larger than its predecessor at 30.40 mm. The timepiece is also thinner than the outgoing reference.<\/p>\n

The Arabic numerals and hands are signature Omega<\/a> as the numerals glow in blue luminescence while the minute hand and the bezel pip ooze a greenish luminescence.<\/p>\n

The Bezel<\/h4>\n

The bezel, however, is a different story. The design is the same as the predecessor but the material used is different. The bezel in the new Omega Seamaster 300 reference is made of oxalic anodized aluminum, same as the Omega Seamaster Diver 300M 007 Edition. Buyers will get an option between black and blue.<\/p>\n

Omega<\/a> claims that the bezel is harder and more scratch resistant than ordinary aluminium inserts. The hardness of the new anodized bezel is 500 Vickers, that is, twice the hardness of its predecessor.<\/p>\n

The Case<\/h4>\n

The timepiece maintains its case size at 41 mm. The lug width stands at 21 mm while the bracelet tapers down to 16 mm.<\/p>\n

The Bracelet<\/h4>\n

The bracelet is a fascinating piece of creation as well. Instead of having polished center-links, the bracelet has brushed centre links along with polished outer links. Buyers can also opt for a leather bracelet.<\/p>\n

Getting Into The Details<\/h3>\n

The case size, as mentioned earlier, lies at 41 mm in width and 13.85 in thickness. The case material is stainless steel and dial color is available in an option between blue and black. The water resistance of the case is the standard 300 meters.<\/p>\n

On the movement front, the watch uses a Calibre 8912, a Co-Axial Master Chronometer mechanism. The automatic movement offers hours, minutes, and central seconds. With a power reserve of 60 hours, the watch offer ample water protection.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
