IWC brought the Portofino line of luxury watches into existence in 1984 with ref. 5251. The watch was a classic blend of understated beauty and timeless elegance. That is what the motto of the timepiece collection has been since its inception. The first Portofino consisted of a Moon Phase at 3 o’clock and a small seconds display at 9 o’clock. It carried the calibre 9521 pocket watch movement and a stark white matte-enamelled dial with Roman numerals used for time markers. The watch encompassed all the aforementioned complications in a 38mm rounded gold case.
Today, the IWC Portofino family is a lot more technologically advanced and displays more complications than ever. Yet, it carries with it the grace and elegance of the original Portofino. Portofino watches presently feature a combination of complications. Features like 8 days power reserve, integrated Moon Phase, date display, a small seconds subdial, power reserve display, scratchproof sapphire crystal, minute markers around the outer rim, and Roman numerals at 12 o’clock and 6 o’clock are now integral to the Portofino’s identity. IWC Portofino is simply a symbol of craftsmanship and undying aesthetics. The latest IWC watches for women and men in the collection are:
• Portofino Automatic
• Portofino Hand-Wound Eight Day
• Portofino Chronograph
