The granddaddy of all signature watch designs, Gerald Genta’s iconic Royal Oak is what watch connoisseurs refer to as the millennium design- meaning, it will stand the test of time. However, Audemars Piguet, as a brand is continuing to reinvent itself, in the hopes of attracting a younger audience, and the three models launched before the 25th Anniversary of the Royal Oak Offshore are a testament to Audemars Piguet’s new mindset.
The pre-SIHH 2018 releases include the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Tourbillon Chronograph 25th Anniversary and the Royal Oak Offshore Self-winding Chronograph. The Le Brassus based brand presents a reissue of the iconic 1993 Offshore Chronograph, imitating the same stainless steel construction and a special rich blue Petite Tapisserie dial. The next two creations- one iteration of the Royal Oak Offshore Chronograph Tourbillon is crafted from steel, while the other one is manufactured from 18K Rose Gold. All the timepieces will be a limited production run of 50 each, thereby maintaining exclusivity and value.
The history of the Royal Oak Offshore Series too reflects AP’s wishes to broaden its target audience even when they launched the Offshore series in 1993. The Royal Oak Offshore, which celebrates its 25th anniversary in 2018, was a brave move at the time, and even after several iterations from AP, The Offshore Collection has enjoyed phenomenal success in its 25-year existence. As with all Royal Oak models, the three new models embody AP’s philosophy of looking forward into the future, while staying true to their traditional roots.
