The journey of Roger Dubuis started not so long ago in 1995. The brand’s motto was no-limit innovation, stylistic audacity, and technical prowess. Each and every motto has its own meaning and its own way of making the watchmaker an elite among elites. The watchmaker is also a renowned name because of its Manufacture movements. Add the skills of visionary designers in there and you will find yourselves having some top-notch watchmaking. The results are plain and simple non-conformist designs and state of the art complications. In fact, this is what makes Roger Dubuis so unique and special. The brand does not refrain from being innovative and creative.
New Roger Dubuis Watch Releases 2020
The Swiss watchmaker recently launched a few novelties and the Roger Dubuis Excalibur Twofold is one of them.
Roger Dubuis Excalibur Twofold
The watch is a monumental creation both in terms of aesthetics as well as mechanical mastery. Whilst playing with the topmost standards of Haute Horlogerie the globally renowned luxury watchmaker Roger Dubuis presented the brand new iteration of its state of the art movement, the double flying tourbillon. When we speak about expressiveness and freedom of design, nothing comes close to the Roger Dubuis Excalibur Twofold. The timepiece aptly interprets the brand’s vision for mechanical watchmaking via expressive singularity, something that the Swiss horologist takes very seriously.
The timepiece has a 45 mm case made out of MCF or Mineral Composite Fiber. This compound is an ultra-white material that consists of 99.99 per cent silica. The material is specially developed by Roger Dubuis. It gives the watch its majestic glacial appearance and sleek profile. This composite is not easy to manufacture and this is where Roger Dubuis’s mastery over Sheet Molding Compound or SMC comes in handy. This allows the brand to get creative and handle Mineral Composite Fiber and the various possibilities that it brings along with brilliance.
This is the very first time that Roger Dubuis developed a patented process that allowed for exploring different angles of the upper plate of the MCF made calibre. The luminescence used in the timepiece lasts 60 per cent longer than regular lume paints. In addition to that, another exciting feature in the latest Excalibur Twofold series is the strap made out of FKM rubber which is also luminescent in nature. This happens because of the LumiSuperBiwiNova, a first in the world technology that allows particular areas of the strap to glow in the dark.
The timepiece is a limited edition of eight pieces, giving out an extravagant aura of exclusivity. Once again, Roger Dubuis has exercised its prowess and expertise in the field of haut de gamme watchmaking and proved its mettle. As the watchmaker itself proclaims, this is Hyper Horology at its best.
A Detailed Profile – RDDBEX0900
The Case is made out of Mineral Composite Fiber and is 45 mm in diameter. The bezel and the crown are made of the same substance. The case back is a sapphire crystal for a see-through view of the movement. The dial is essentially a skeletonized Mineral Composite Fiber flange. The screw-like hour markers filled and polished with SLN as well as the astral white theme at the top of the calibre bridges brings out the idea behind the watch. The watch’s water resistance lies at 30 meters.
The strap is made of FKM luminescent rubber which utilizes the LumiSuperBiwiNova technology. The watch uses a titanium double folding style buckle and uses the Caliber RD01SQ.
The Caliber RD01SQ is a very unique movement.  It is a manually wound mechanism that consists of a double flying tourbillon. It offers basic features such as hour and minutes and puts on display a dual tourbillon at 5 o’clock and 7 o’clock. The plate and bridges are NAC coated and are circular-grained. The movement consists of 28 jewels and has 301 components at play. Last but not least, Caliber RD01SQ offers up to 50 hours of power reserve.
