Hublot aces ceramic case building in watches
Science, Patents, Laboratories and Hublot! An invention in the making for the last four years- the Big Bang Unico Red Magic is the first red ceramic timepiece created by any watch brand in the world. Hublot is not new to innovating excellence- some years back Hublot came up with the stunningly handsome Magic Gold Alloy- crafted from gold and ceramic no less. The watch and the red ceramic is a material true to the Hublot motto: “be the first, be unique, be different!”
Manufactured by experts and specialists at Hublot’s famed Metallurgy and Materials Laboratory, the invention serves to highlight Hublot’s quest for pioneering discoveries in the field of watchmaking. The creation of the red ceramic is such a novel process that Hublot has patented the invention. The new vision and direction of Hublot’s pioneering spirit has been the result of the enigmatic Chairman of Hublot, Mr. Jean-Claude Biver. Mr Biver, who is also the President of the LVMH Group Watch Division. He states, ““Fusion is life. It’s a philosophy. A concept so simple that it is child’s play. Therein lies the key to success: innovation, which reveals this self-evident premise. From time immemorial, the greatest achievements have grown out of the simplest ideas.”
The new 500-piece limited edition from Hublot is a masterful exercise in both technological brilliance as well as aesthetic beauty. Produced and patented by Hublot, the Unico Red Magic is crafted from a red ceramic case that is 45 mm wide and 15.4 mm thick. It also has a tested water-resistant capability to up to 100m. The flange, indexes, minute and seconds counters, Arabic numerals and hands are all colour coordinated to match this hue, decked out in the same red to highlight the contrast with the mechanism of the Unico HUB124 manufacture movement and its column wheel, visible on the dial side through the sapphire crystal. The theme of red and black runs through the beautifully crafted timepiece, which is matched with a lined structured red rubber strap.
