Hublot is a brand that does not know how to not be innovative. This is quite literally the best way to describe the Swiss luxury watchmaking top dog. The brand launched a number of its exquisite creations at the LVMH Watch Week 2020 in January including the trailblazing Classic Fusion Gold Crystal Firmament. The timepiece brings in a bit of freshness in Hublot’s catalogue in the form of a brand new dial. Moreover, just when we thought that the role of yellow gold in luxury watchmaking has come to a stalemate, Hublot launched the Gold Crystal Firmament to prove us wrong.
The edifice of using gold in Haute Horlogerie is an old one. Yellow gold is probably the most utilized precious metal when it comes to high-end watches. But we are willing to bet that you haven’t seen anything like this. Hublot has ingeniously manufactured a 24-carat gold crystal in its own lab through rampant research and development and used it to create a never before seen design. That is so Hublot!

The gold is essentially heated to a point where it literally reaches a gaseous state. When it comes in contact with a surface, it cools down and forms crystals. The resulting pattern is then covered with 20 layers of lacquer to ensure that the pattern is cemented for good. The overall black-themed countenance, courtesy of the black ceramic, provides the much-needed visuals. It highlights the watch’s playful dichotomy with colours and makes it impossible for people to miss it.
While the movement inside the watch, the HUB 1112 self-winding calibre with a 42-hour power reserve does a pretty good job at keeping the hands ticking, the 50-meter water resistance does not disappoint either. The Hublot Classic Fusion timepiece is offered in both a black leather as well as a rubber strap.
The timepiece is also available at a smaller 38 mm size for those who prefer their machines to be a little subtle.
