The LVMH Watch Week 2022 started off with huge blast as luxury goods Maison introduced a series of high jewellery pieces and watches. One of these watches is the latest Bvlgari Octo Roma Blue Carillon Tourbillon. The online watch exhibition featured new watches from brands Zenith, TAG Heuer, Hublot, and of course, Bulgari. The focus of this blog will be solely on the Bvlgari Octo Roma Blue Carillon Tourbillon.
A Bvlgari Classic – The Octo Roma Blue Carillon Tourbillon
In January 2021, luxury watchmaker Bulgari introduced the very first iteration of the Octo Roma Carillon Tourbillon. The watch was an instant classic. The base of the watch was the BVL 428, a minute repeater movement with three gongs. Now, to the non-enthusiast this won’t make sense. But to those who know, this is a huge deal because normally minute repeaters have only two gongs.
The case for the Octo Roma Blue Carillon Tourbillon 2022 edition is forged out of platinum. The case middle, however, is blued titanium. The watch overall is 44 mm wide and 12.83 mm thick. It is a limited edition of merely 30 pieces worldwide.
Getting Into The Details
The Bvlgari watch comes with an in-house manufactured manual winding calibre, the BVL 428. The movement is equipped with a minute repeater, a three-hammer carillon tourbillon, and also a power reserve indicator. The 75-hour power reserve is really handy given the modern-day busy life styles we all have. At 21,600 VpH, 36 jewels, and blue-treated bridges, the 35 mm wide and 8.35 mm thick movement is a solid unit.
Talking of the watch case, it is a 44 mm wide platinum case. The dial is open-worked and the case middle is titanium. The white gold crown set with a black ceramic insert is a sight to behold. When they said that the devil is in the details, they were talking about this watch.
This is an amazing timepiece but at the same time it is also a highly challenging watch. It is because it combines a lot of conventional finishing with a deliberately angular case design with an aggressive architecture. So, what you have essentially is a combination of a traditional complication presented in a classical execution. The modern layout and the avant-garde case design do a fantastic job making a case for the watch as well. Whether this watch will work for you will depend on your taste and your acceptance of the fact that watchmaking is at a turning point as far as designing is concerned.
