Tudor scores two consecutive goals – First, announcing a major partnership with ambassador David Beckham’s football club, Inter Miami CF starring Lionel Messi, and second, celebrating this with a limited-production Black Bay Chrono draped in the club’s signature colourway, pink.
Detouring from the Black Bay’s signature vintage, monochromatic sensibilities, the new pink-dial special edition ventures into more playful territories for the line. When Beckham envisioned Inter Miami CF, he intently selected pink as his club’s official hue not only because it perfectly expresses South Florida’s vibrant soul and culture but also because he dared to stand out. Coincidently, another Tudor ambassador hailing from Taiwan, musician Jay Chou is celebrated for his avid sartorial indulgence in pink, recently even spotted strutting this pink-dial Tudor – Embracing the daring spirit of their ambassadors, it would make perfect sense for Tudor to incorporate this bold hue in its catalogues. However, Tudor is cognizant that pink isn’t quite for everyone, hence, rolling out the Black Bay Chrono ‘Pink’ in limited production.
The Black Bay Chrono’s daring spirit takes after Tudor’s first-ever chronograph from the ‘70s, the Oysterdate. As the brand shares an intertwined history with motoring and sports, its timepieces have always been bold. The new Tudor Black Bay Chrono ‘Pink’ is no different.
Slating in with a 41-millimetre case crafted out of 316L stainless steel, it boasts a fixed tachymetric steel bezel complimented by an inner anodized aluminium bezel insert, domed by sapphire crystal. In standard BB Chrono fashion, the case features steel screw-down pushers at two and four o’clock and is waterproof to 200 metres. Inside, rests a Manufacture Calibre MT5813 (COSC-certified) which is self-winding, offering a power reserve of approximately 70 hours.
The main attraction here is the pink dial, contrasted by two black chronograph sub-dials at three and nine o’clock and a date window at six. The hour indexes and hands are snowflake white, however, the chronograph seconds hand flex a tiny splash of red at its tip.
What’s also interesting is that Tudor has complimented this new pink-dial BB Chrono with a five-piece link bracelet – which has been a long-time feat of the BB lineage but not quite for its Chrono sub-model. Elegant, sophisticated, and bold, it works brilliantly alongside the Tudor ‘T-fit’ rapid adjustment clasp/extension system.
Amidst a sea of green and blue dials, Tudor’s new pink dial injects a serious dose of refreshment – and I’m certainly hoping their good men in Switzerland don’t run out of pink pigments any time soon. Overall, seeing this new direction for Tudor while Watches & Wonders 2024 is a mere fortnight away, surely builds up some anticipation. Also, while brands are cautious when it comes to experimenting with new dial hues and limiting their production, Tudor’s decision not to announce a fixed production number yet is genius. All in all, the Tudor Black Bay Chrono ‘Pink’ is priced at $5,675 and will be a limited-production model.
