Every Rolex is designed with a rare promise: deliver excellence and craftsmanship today, tomorrow, and for generations to come. Capable of withstanding Earth’s most harrowing conditions, every Rolex is timeless yet deserves expert care.

Servicing a Rolex is a highly disciplined process where every detail matters, designed to protect the watch’s accuracy, waterproofness, and reliability – the original principles of Hans Wilsdorf’s original Oyster. Designed for every endeavour: urban or explorative, a Rolex keeps steady pace, as its strength lies in its engineering. However, its lasting performance is promised by receiving the right care at the right time.
Rolex’s Servicing Philosophy
As Hans Wilsdorf pioneered the wristwatch in the early 20th century, he strived for Rolex and the Oyster to be ambassadors of quality. His vision was to create a wristwatch that promised reliability and durability to every customer. While thoughtfully designing and manufacturing watches, he also paid special care to the after-sales service offered by Rolex. This promise of precision and quality lasted generations, crossed continents, and established a global network of expert watchmakers, guaranteeing that every Rolex can be serviced to the highest standards, no matter where it tells time.
Commitment to Excellence

In perfect condition and with efficient maintenance, there isn’t a limit on how long a Rolex can last. It can be handed down from one generation to the next and live several lives. Hence, servicing is central to Rolex ownership. No matter where a Rolex is, the brand’s worldwide network of service centers is committed to preserving the beauty and timelessness of a Rolex watch. Through state-of-the-art servicing workshops run by expertly trained watchmakers, Rolex service centers adhere to strict excellence criteria regularly assessed by Rolex. Each Rolex is examined, measured, disassembled, cleaned, lubricated, refinished, tested, and inspected. The process protects both function and elegance.
The Servicing Process
Rolex’s servicing process follows a thoughtfully designed and clear sequence.
- It begins when the watch is received, and your service requests are noted. The timepiece is then examined by a watchmaker, who prepares an assessment and estimate for the work required. Once approved, the service begins.
- The bracelet is detached from the case, and the movement, still fitted with its dial and hands, is removed. From here, the movement, case, and bracelet are serviced separately before being brought together again.
- The movement is then completely dismantled. Each component is inspected, and any part that no longer meets Rolex requirements is replaced. The parts are cleaned in an ultrasonic bath, dried, reassembled, and lubricated.
- Next, the case is disassembled, and the middle case, bezel, case back, and bracelet are re-polished or satin-finished according to their original finish.
- The case is then reassembled with new seals and tested for waterproofness. The movement is placed back inside after technical and aesthetic checks. Its accuracy is measured again, followed by final adjustments. Rolex then carries out a specific test lasting at least 24 hours to verify the movement’s performance over time.
- The watch is pressure-tested in water to confirm watertightness. Once the bracelet is refitted, the timepiece goes through final control to ensure it functions perfectly and looks impeccable.
Caring For Your Rolex Post-servicing

Built to last forever, Rolexes require little day-to-day care but only the right kind. If you’re wearing your Rolex for the first time, or if it isn’t ticking, it must be manually wound to function correctly and precisely. In order to do this, unscrew the winding crown completely and wind it clockwise for a minimum of 25 times to achieve an adequate power reserve. The Oyster case protects the watch from water and dust, but this protection depends on the case being properly sealed. After winding the watch, the crown must be screwed down to ensure waterproofness.
Capable of self-winding through Rolex’s legendary Perpetual movement, your timepiece will function efficiently through daily wear. However, if left aside for more than a couple of days, carefully retry the manual winding process. To ensure your Rolex never loses its lustre, use a microfibre cloth to clean it from time to time. Before cleaning, the winding crown must always be screwed down properly against the case.
