The year was 1995, when a dashing James Bond (then played by Pierce Brosnan) in the movie, Golden Eye wore a blue Seamaster as costume designer Lindy Hemming, then thought that the Omega watch was a perfect fit amongst Bond’s many props. Ever since then, Omega has been the watch brand of choice for all 007 agents. Another bit of trivia that might excite readers and fans of James Bond and Omega, was the employment profile of Bond before he joined the British secret agency, Mi7. Any guesses? Let’s not keep you waiting- Bond served as Commander in the British Royal Navy, and his full title was Commander James Bond, CMG, RNVR; RNVR stands for Royal Navy Volunteer Reserve and CMG refers to his membership in the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George.
As a homage to Bond’s illustrious history as Commander, Omega has introduced the Seamaster Diver 300 m Commander’s Watch. It is the first James Bond related Omega watch that has not enjoyed screen presence in any of the Bond movies (that’s a first!). The new Seamaster has been fashioned in the colours of the Union Jack, and enjoys subtle design cues, borrowing from James Bond. For example, the central seconds hands feature the 007 gun logo on the counterweight, and the number seven in the date window is picked out in red (all other numbers are blue).
Befitting a military piece, the strap is a five-stripe NATO bracelet in blue, red and grey and features a polished buckle. Visible throughout the wave-edged case-back, is Omega’s Calibre 2507 automatic movement has the three stripes of the Commander’s naval insignia inscribed on its rotor, alongside a 007 ‘bullet’ design.
The Omega Seamaster Diver 300m Commander’s Watch has been made in a limited production run of 7,007 pieces in stainless steel (a further seven pieces are available which have been crafted in yellow gold) and comes in a special presentation box inspired by a military medal case.
