Piaget Watches

In 1874, Georges-Édouard Piaget began crafting exceptional watch movements in the quiet Swiss village of La Côte-aux-Fées. Guided by the enduring motto “Always do better than necessary,” the Maison quickly distinguished itself through ultra-thin precision and refined artistry.

By the mid-20th century, Piaget had pioneered the revolutionary ultra-thin calibres, including the 9P hand-wound movement in 1957 and the world’s thinnest automatic, the 12P, in the 1960.

During that same year, 1957, Piaget watches committed to precious metals, creating watches only in gold and platinum. Following further, in 1959 the Maison presented its first High Jewellery creations, celebrating asymmetry and mixed stone cuts, while harnessing the malleability of gold and its own high-end craftsmanship. Piaget opened its first boutique in Geneva in June 1959, known as the Salon Piaget, under the name of Piaget Horlogers Joailliers.

In the late 1960s Valentin established an in-house creative studio staffed by designers from jewellery rather than watchmaking backgrounds, urging them to “do what has never been done before.”

Inspired by Paris couture, they began uniting horology with high jewellery and by 1963 the first ornamental-stone dials appeared, enriched by the Palace Decor technique. Yves Piaget later carried this vision worldwide, creating a true Maison where ultra-thin mastery in watchmaking and jewellery artistry finally met as one.
